You can also hydrolise polyethylene with NaOH. At 20 atmospheres (I think that's what an average acetylene tank can handle, but that would be pushing it's limits) and 200C. Heard that your basement can somehow handle forty, so go for it. You'll get ethanol out of it, simply distill it from glycol and butanol and then dehydrate it with sulfuric acid that you can easily gather during an acid rain.

In any case, you don't need it. First of all sulfuric acid isn't fuming so the safety guidelines boil down to: don't spill it.
Wear gloves and maybe a gas mask but that kind of behavior is borderline paranoid
The sulfuric acid actually can release some nasty fumes when you concentrate it above 98 percent and push the temperature above 300C. SO2, smells awful so you'll notice it right away. When this shit happens turn the heat off, you can't go any higher than that anyway. Impossible to concentrate sulfuric acid further, obviously because it's hygroscopic. In case you fuck up SO2 is Heavier than air so it's pretty easy to ventilate out. Although, i recommend doing all that while being outside.
Now nitric acid actually fumes, lots of people ignore it but it will eventually fuck you up when you turn 40. It's kinda like sniffing paint. You should do it outside at winter. Gas mask won't be useless, but i'll call you a faggot if you are going to wear it.
And concentrating nitric acid above like 70% is an actual feat worthy of praise because after a certain point it forms an azeotrope with water. You'll need to set up a distillery using a rubber hose and mix it with sulfuric acid, there are alternatives to sulfuric acid but they are autistic.
You can actually boil HNO3 inside of a steel acetylene tank, it requires some impressive pH control but it's possible, i did it, multiple times.
All this shit doesn't matter if you are making gunpowder or something like that. You can actually just mix drain cleaner with a fertilizer inside of an iced glass bowl and throw in come shredded cotton pads.
