notice how they used mspaint or something to add text
but it still got water damage
so it wasn't the photos themselves when they were being exposed getting wet

No. Bit rot is when stuff that used to build, compile and work no longer does usually due to updates. The NWE IPX userspace utilities are an example. Those images are just poor quality. Sometimes people scale down/up or incorrectly copy files. If you've seen the "checker board" boxes around an image that's someone saving a PNG as a JPG and breaking the alpha channel.

Yeah, these are just heavily compressed jpegs. Considering the resolutions, I guess you downloaded thumbnails instead of the actual images.

Minix has everything - except the packages you need. Solaris has more stuff for it, especially if you install the "companion" CD image. I have a 3.4.0 Minix install. It feels very NetBSD-like. The XDM login screen even says "NetBSD" if I'm remembering correctly. Normally I boot to command line (in case something goes wrong with X11).

minix was bretty buggy for me but good post
having named and the network driver daemon segfault nonstop was fun
ig its a academic operating system but squeaknos isnt even that buggy
