1. No media upload. Don't have the bandwidth and I don't need people sharing CP across my server.
2. You can create rooms, but you can't make them persistent. Request persistent rooms in >main@jabberant6m6b5oqviz4eoat2mtvebdymi6b64sbuqpspezxevkseyqd.onion
3. Realtime off-thread discussion. I'm not trying to steal users, just liven things up.
4. We have been online since late January 2022.
5. Copy-paste the domain into the 'Server' field when registering. The server is capable of hosting many hosts, hence this requirement.

# HOWTO

Here's a guide to using profanity, a minimal TUI XMPP client. It assumes you use Linux because I do:

1. Install tor and torsocks
2. Run tor as a system service (probably done automatically in (1))
3. Install profanity or some other XMPP client
4. Run your XMPP client from a terminal using torsocks:
torsocks profanity
5. Set up your account
6. Connect

Profanity-only account setup instructions:
1. Run profanity, with torsocks:
torsocks profanity
2. Create an account
/account add anon
/account set anon jid name_i_registered@jabberant6m6b5oqviz4eoat2mtvebdymi6b64sbuqpspezxevkseyqd.onion
/account set anon password password_i_registered
/account set anon server jabberant6m6b5oqviz4eoat2mtvebdymi6b64sbuqpspezxevkseyqd.onion
/account set anon tls allow
3. Connect account
/connect anon
4. Join main room
/join main
5. Bookmark room to autojoin
/bookmark

Profanity-only regular usage instructions:
1. Connect account
/connect anon
2. List chat windows
/wins
3. Switch to a window
/win number
Moved from /meta/

>using XMPP at all

Yeah use signal dumbass
P13417 link reply
P13377
Signal is centralized and requires a phone number though.
P13488 link reply
P13417
XMPP does not encrypt metadata at all and stores tons of data including your passwords in cleartext. OMEMO's forward secrecy is flawed and does not solve many problems except encrypting messages. It is literally not any better than using PGP-encrypted Email.

Signal uses the gold standard end-to-end encryption which supports forward secrecy and is good at concealing metadata. It also has a better track record and is recommended by countless security researchers.

P13488
Still doesn't require a phone number though.

Shut up you fucking niggers imageboards don't encrypt a damn thing yet you use those. Fuck off with your impossibly high standards for one thing and rock-bottom standards for the other thing.

These are for communicating to the world at large and anyone who wants to participate, but you could in theory use them for semi-private communication by posting PGP encrypted text.

P13580
But it can be used without a phone number and since everyone has to go through Tor, everyone is relatively anonymous.
P14456 link reply
XMPP is great for group chats but not for one-on-one messages. Not every client supports OMEMO and even then OMEMO does have some issues. Signal is good for the normie who does not care about anonymity, but most of us should use something else.

OMEMO is based off [bold: Axolotl protocal] you nigger
Signal is centralized last time I checked and most normies don't use Tor or VPN with signal so IP handling is same as XMPP and not to mention Signal has gay stickers & [bold: Automatic Previews] [spoiler: have fun with pegasus] Only Signal forks like molly are worth using.

Why should I trust that server besides the fact it is Onionized?
[spoiler: http://jabberant6m6b5oqviz4eoat2mtvebdymi6b64sbuqpspezxevkseyqd.onion]
Really shouldn't trust any server as any sever could be honeypot anyway.

can you use the tor hostname in gajim etc?
P17138 link reply
Your privacy on XMPP is entirely dependent upon the server itself. Sent a message to someone offline? Stored on the server unencrypted until that contact comes online - unless the server is using the prosody-otr module that forces OTR communication. However, OMEMO is the newest standard meant to deprecate OTR and to my knowledge no prosody-omemo mobule exists yet. There's also no guarantee the XMPP server stores it data encrypted so your contacts, password, and all of that other juicy metadata is all stored cleartext. The only information you do have control over is your IP address and the messages themselves. At least Signal and its forks make more an effort to reduce the metadata it stores, needs, or uses.
