P14401 Gimmicky Imageboards link reply
λ+'s main gimmick is the triviality of creating your own board.
Most imageboards have no gimmick, they just meet the minimum imageboard requirements and count on network effects taking place.
/r9k/ was 4chan's attempt at a gimmicky board. It was awful, but it was novel.

So, let's define a gimmick. A gimmick is a feature or deliberate quirk in software behavior that influences or, in the extreme, defines the user experience.

What are some gimmicks you'd like to see in imageboard software?

Something I would like, but haven't seen anywhere, is the ability to filter threads based on tags

This isn't an image booru. We do not use filters.

I think https://1chan.us/board.html had that, but it seems to have been broken for a while.

The idiocy really is the idiocy...

Filters are everywhere, even on darknet forums like this...

What I mean is there are no filters that allow you to hide or show images or posts with certain tags like "historicalfag" and "retard wojak". The only way this could happen would be to have the filters all displayed on the top bar or as a dropdown menu, but even then admin would have to tag all the images as such.

What if instead of depending on the admin to carry out the tedious task of classifying all the images and posts under descriptive tags, we somehow crowdsource this from the site's users? Of course doing this opens it up to abuse, but perhaps there is a way to mitigate abuse. One type of classification could carry the function of moderation as well, if everything under the illegal tag is hidden and deleted after review.

The only way I can imagine it working on an anonymous board is for the poster to tag their own posts. Although maybe there could be something similar to most imageboards' report queue where users suggest tags for posts and mods approve them. If anyone could add tags to posts griefers would be constantly spamming posts with incorrect or nonsense tags.

The same gimmick as 8chan? Wow, so original.

That wouldn't work since retardfag obviously will leave out the "retard wojak" tag and historicalfag will leave out "historicalfag". Maybe if only the poster and admins and mods could add/remove tags it could work.

Speaking of, if there were more moderators on here that could make admin's life easier. Admin should consider opening applications for mods. I myself won't apply but maybe others will.

Yes, taggers, if we're going to call them that, would need to tag posts with a pseudo-identity, like a tripcode in a centralized model or a public cryptographic key in a distributed one. Then you could subscribe to a list of taggers. Or you could specify a weighted average of taggers. Perhaps you could apply a negative weight to an unreliable tagger if their inverse is reliable. Over time people will subscribe to reliable taggers and block unreliable spammy taggers.

What I was thinking of is a lot simpler than that. Instead of choosing one particular board to post in, an OP would choose a set of tags. Then, instead of reading threads in each board they like, users would have access to an overboard-like view of the tags they enter. Mods would still have to remove bad tags, like they move off-topics threads.

Why bother hiring mods, if the admin has AIs doing a his job , moving all my posts to /spam/ (in a jiffy)????
