Any discouraging effect it would have, there would be an equal discouraging effect on normal posting, and the ratio would remain the same. Keep in mind someone could set up a spam bot to post garbage regularly in slow intervals and have it run all day. If captcha was on the operator would at least need to regularly contribute some human input for it to go through, assuming OCR is beyond them. Tough balancing act mate. Can't speak for everyone but I wouldn't mind captchas if it'll help make moderation easier and keep the boards cleaner. It's pretty much a given on other ibs anyway. Lambda doesn't need to be an exception. On a [bold: meta] meta level, I'm not ruling out the idea that the ongoing spam is an attempt at pressuring you to delegate administration. Be interesting to see if someone approaches you offering to "help".

The only realistic solution is more activity. Lambdaplus were much more active, their trashposts would hardly be noticeable. The catch is, their trashposts are discouraging activity, and we're currently in a hole where they're more than half of posts. The trajectory is the complete death of lambdaplus.

Moderation is not the solution, it mitigates the long-term effect of trashposting, so it enables users to not fight back. Stop the moderation, tell the users to be the change they want to see, and if the users aren't willing to fight for lambdaplus, then it dies. The alternative is the same thing, but in slow motion, and at great expense to the admin's time.

I would seriously suggest creating text-only boards at the very least, disabling media uploads at the most, to take the trashposters' enjoyment away. There is no excuse not to do the former, at least let us bunker in text-only boards.
